Where to get the Wegovy pill or Foundayo

We may earn a commission from some links on this page. How we make money.

Short answer: You need a prescription either way. Paying cash without a regular doctor? Online programs such as Ro and LifeMD list both the Wegovy pill and Foundayo. Using commercial insurance? PlushCare says it's in-network with most major insurers. Already have a prescription? The makers' own pharmacies, NovoCare (Wegovy pill) and LillyDirect (Foundayo), sell them for $149 to $299 a month. On Medicare? Start with your own doctor (see below).

If you're on Medicare

The Medicare GLP-1 Bridge can bring the cost down to $50 a month if you qualify, but you need Part D drug coverage to qualify, the Bridge itself is a separate Medicare program, and your prescriber has to get a prior authorization. For most people on Medicare, the simplest route is your own doctor. Online programs are a weaker fit here: LifeMD says people with Medicare, Medicaid or TRICARE aren't eligible for its GLP-1 programs, and Ro's pill options are cash pay.

How to choose

  • Add up the real monthly cost. Online programs charge a membership on top of the medication. A $39 first-month membership plus $149 for the starting dose is $188 that month.
  • Make sure it's the FDA-approved drug. Compounded GLP-1s are not FDA-approved. Every option on this page lists brand-name medication, but LifeMD says its providers may prescribe compounded drugs in some cases, so ask for the brand name by name.
  • Ask how dose increases and refills work. Both pills step up in dose roughly monthly, and the price usually rises with the dose.
  • Expect a real evaluation. A licensed clinician should review your health history before prescribing.
